I’m posting on this topic because the last one was in 2019. We are staying near San Stae. Have a noon flight for the US. We have luggage. We’re advised to take the Alilaguna to the airport, but then I read comments about Alilaguna to airport being full and not letting you get in. I have their website and timetable. We’re planning to leave our lodging at 9am. Would it be better to take the regular vaporeto to the bus station, and take the bus to the airport. Please advise if you’ve had experience with this. Thanks
How long before your flight do you have to check in.
The orange line takes 50 minutes, so if you leave your accommodation at 9am that seems to be cutting it fine.
I do not have experience of the orange line, so don't know about full boats.
If this is a worry, how practical would it be for you to get the blue line from the railway station, which starts from there. The only snag with that is the journey time - it goes the long way round and takes nearly two hours!
So maybe the bus is the best route - but do check timings/checkin.
I have used the Vaporetto/bus option when flying out of Marco Polo and found it the quickest and the cheapest. Bus takes 20 mins from Piazzale Roma to the airport and drop-off is at the airport doors. You can purchase tickets in advance on line on the ATVO website or from the ticket office at PR. Luggage goes under the bus.
Several years ago our tour guide (Trafalgar) had 2 private water taxis reserved for our group. Getting on the water taxi from hotel dock and going straight to the airport dock was the PERFECT way to end our trip.

hey hey ptovar4
when is this trip planned & how many people?
europeforvisitors.com look for venice and all it's info it offers
another option for you is:
venicelink.com (click shuttle)
check shared private water taxi,
motoscafivenezia.com
private water taxi, cost more $$$ without stressing and they help with your luggage & you.
i've seen and been on a crowded vaporetto, standing room only and holding your bag & if too full pass you by, how long will the ride be. everyone has their own opinions of getting to airport, we've done private water taxi 4 times for less stress and direct ride to airport. saved money for it before trip which made it so easy, relaxing and a beautiful ride. it's up to you to decide whatever transportation you take. have a great holiday & enjoy
aloha
There are several recent topics about travelling to and from the airport in Venice, but they don’t come up in chronological order so you have to scroll to the next pages. I typed Venice to airport in the search field.
I have taken the alilaguna to and from Venice airport, and the long wait seems to be at the airport, but that was only 20 minutes. I had no trouble boarding in Venice at Rialto bridge, but I did board at 0730, a little earlier than you. You could take the vaporetto to the bus station, but that may not be any easier, or quicker, in rush hour with your luggage. You should allow yourself an hour to get to the airport, and for an international flight you should be there three hours before.
Many years ago when I did the Venice/Florence/Rome trip our entire tour group, with all our luggage, got on a vaporetto to the bus station. So it is doable, it was just pretty hectic.
How many are ‘we’? Private water taxi might be worth it. We were 4 with luggage and 2 with some mobility concerns and found the private water taxi worth the extra cost going from Airport to hotel.
Thank you for all the great suggestions. My husband and I ended up taking the vaporetto #1 (9 euro) from San Stae to the Piazzale Roma, where the bus station is, then the airport bus (10 euro). The vaporetto come every 15 minutes and so do the airport bus busses. We bought both tickets the day before and checked out the bus number and the stop at the piazzale Roma. On the day of the flight we got to San Stae at 8:35am. To piazzale Roma at 9:00am. The bus left at 9:10. We were at the Marco Polo airport at 9:35. The bus dropped us off right in front of the international gate. Very easy.
For future readers: The Alilaguna comes every 30 minutes and costs 18 Euro. Takes 55 minutes from San Stae to Airport.
