I will be arriving to Stansted Airport from Athens and I need to get to Heathrow Airport to come back to the US. What options do I have? what's the fastest transportation? what's the cheapest one? or what's the easest?
I'd greatly appreciate your advise. Thank you
Your best option is to travel on the National Express Coach from Stanstead to Heathrow. They leave about every 40 minutes and take a little under three hours. It's usually GBP25.50 ( call it $50.00 ) and it's advisable to book in advance.
I took the National Express bus from Heathrow to Stansted and from Stansted to Heathrow last year, and it never took more than an hour and 45 minutes! In fact, going to Stansted it was even quicker because there was less traffic at that time of day (midmorning). At that time, it cost 20 GBP one way, 26 GBP roundtrip.
Taking a direct National Express coach is easiest.
Taking the Stansted Express train to Liverpool Street station, the Tube or a taxi to Paddington station, and the Heathrow Express to Heathrow is fastest--and most expensive.
The cheapest--and slowest--way would be to take the easyBus from Stansted to the stop near Victoria coach station. If booked far enough in advance, the fare can be as low as £4. Then take either a National Express coach from Victoria Coach station or the Tube from Victoria Underground station to Heathrow (with one change at Hammersmith). The fare for either route is £4.
Most important: Allow six hours between your scheduled arrival at Stansted and your scheduled departure from Heathrow if you take the direct National Express coach. Allow an additional hour if you take the easyBus and then coach or Tube route. A late arrival at Stansted or heavy traffic on the motorway will cut into your margin in a hurry.
