Transportation from Rome(centre) to Airport(FCO)

We a party of three staying at Ara Pacis near the Vatican. We would like inexpensive transportation to the Leonardo da Vinci Airport on July 22nd. What suggestions for ease of travel close to our hotel?? Betty

Ease and inexpensive do not necessarily go hand in hand for city transport I'm afraid. The official fixed rate fare for a city taxi from anywhere within Rome city (Aurelian) walls to FCO is 40 euros, make sure you agree the fare before you get in the cab. I don't know what would apply if your hotel location is not within the walls, maybe they are allowed to charge the metered rate?

A private door to door transfer might also do the trick. This company will cost you 50 euro for the three of you, it is highly regarded on TripAdvisor.

Compare the cost with a city taxi from hotel to Termini station (abt 15 - 18 euro if our experience last November is anything to go by) and 3 train tickets to FCO (can't quite remember but abt 11 euro each).

Just found this site, it looks pretty neat.

Unless you befriend a local who is kind enough to drive you to the airport, Linda has the very correct scoop. You are either faced with a taxi or metro ride to Rome Termini and an 11Euro fare to the airport on the Leonardo Express or a 40Euro cab ride.

Betty,

Linda's information is spot on! I'm not sure "inexpensive" and "ease of travel close to your Hotel" are going to be achievable.

It would help to know what time your flght is departing? That will have some bearing on which transportation option to choose.

The method I'd use in the same circumstances would be Taxi to Roma Termini and then Leonardo Express to Roma / FCO. It's the easiest and least complicated method and you won't be subject to traffic problems (if there are any). The fare is €11 per person (don't forget to validate your tickets!).

Happy travels!
