Transportation from Orta San Giulio to Malpensa Airport

Hello, we are going to sign up for a Rick Steve's Villages of Italy Tour April 27 - May 10, 2020. Our flight back to the United States will leave at 6:30 am on May 10. Has anyone ever been able to get a taxi to take them to Malpensa Airport after the farewell dinner the night before the tour ends? We would like to get to the airport the night before and stay at an airport hotel since our flight leaves so early in the morning on May 10. There was only one other flight back to the United States that leaves at 9:55 am and it was a much longer flight so we didn't want to take that one. Since Orta San Giulio is a small village, we weren't sure if there would be airport transportation options in the evening, e.g., 8:30 pm - 9 pm.

Also, for anyone that has done the Villages of Italy Tour, what time does the farewell dinner end?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

It is a long time from now. Usually the tour guide will help arranging that. In the meantime, know it is possible to get a taxi to come out from Malpensa to get you. Since the fixed price to between central Milan and Malpensa is 95 EUR, and Orta San Giulio is a similar distance, so expect similar pricing.

From the tour itinerary:

Milan's closest airport, Malpensa, is 60–90 minutes away by taxi. Your guide will help coordinate transportation to Malpensa, leaving you well prepared for the road ahead. Grazie e ciao!

Thank you! Good to know that we can arrange for a taxi to come from the airport to get us.

In late May, my partner and I took a cab from the Navigli district in Milan to catch what I suspect is your very flight back, via Paris, to the States. Nothing but a cab will work in the wee hours of the morning.

We arranged the cab a day or two in advance; he picked us up at 3:30am, at that hour of the morning there was next to no traffic, so we got to the airport very smoothly indeed, in plenty of time to make the 6:30 a.m. flight. It cost about 100 euros, including the tip we chose to give the driver.

I am not sure how long it will take you to get from Orta San Giulio to Malpensa, but as long as you factor that in and can arrange to have a taxi come get you, I don't think you will have an issue going in the early a.m.

Hi Matt, Thank you so much for your reply, good to know that the cabs are available to early in the morning. I believe Orta San Giulio is about a 1 to 1.5 hour drive to the airport so we could do the same thing that you did and just drive to the airport in the morning.

When I took the tour, we had a couple who needed to catch a 6 AM flight from Linate which is on the other side of Milan. Our guide arranged for a taxi to get them there.

My suggestion is to speak to the guide when you start the tour rather than arrange it yourself. They know what is available.
