My husband and our two adult daughters and I are going to Nice at the end of May. We would love to take a train to the Cinque Terre. Is it possible and do we need to plan to stay over one night there? Thanks
Unless you are continuing on to other Italian destinations, it makes no sense to take a daytrip from Nice to the CT. You can do plenty of hiking on the coast between Cassis and Monoco and in the mountains above the coast. If you are going Nice--CT--Florence, Venice, etc, then spend a night or two.
Imagine that you in Boston plan to take a daytrip to Colonial Williamsburg. Sure it could be done, but who would want to do it? Nice to the CT is the same.
The fastest train trip from the Nice Ville train station is 5:09hrs with some runs near 6.0hrs. Just to get there and back is about 12.0hrs. Earliest train out is 5:23. You arrive around 11:00am. You wouldn't be able to see much before having to return to Nice on a day trip. You get to decide.
