Transportation from London to Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Express looks to be very expensive at 14 pounds (over $28 per person). There are three of us and that would be over $84 just to get to the airport. We could almost take a taxi for that amount. Anyone know of a cheaper way to get to Gatwick under an hour's time from Victoria Stn? Any assistance would be very appreciated.

The Southern railroad company has trains from Gatwick to Victoria 4 times an hour for 8.90 lbs (about $18) each. Trip is approx. 30 minutes.

Hi Debbie, you could take the First Capital Train (Thamelink trains) for 9.50. You could get off at London Bridge or Kings Cross.

Thank you. I see the information on Southern's website. It's still on the pricy side for 3 people, but more doable.
It costs less in SF Bay Area for 3 people to take a shuttle van for same milage to SF airport than to take a train to Gatwick. What sticker shock!
It doesn't say anywhere I can see if passengers get bussed from the train stn to the airport but it looks like there is a bus icon next to the stn on the route map. Does anyone know the how many times an hour & how long the shuttle takes from the train stn to the airport? And also if there's an extra cost? Can anyone who has taken it to Gatwick kindly advise? Timing is everything when getting to airports.

The Gatwick Express has an up-to-four-for-the-price-of two special. The three of you would pay a total of £29.80. But three £8.90 Southern tickets would still be a bit cheaper. However, if you'll be leaving from Victoria after 10:00 on a weekday (anytime on weekends), you can buy Southern's DaySave tickets. Up to four travel together for £20.00. These tickets must be bought well in advance online. See this link for the details: http://tinyurl.com/2arjue.

The train station for Gatwick is right outside the the airport....can't miss it.

Yes, London is an expensive city....especially for the locals and visitors from other nations, the vast majority of whom don't make American-type salaries. The trade off is that many attractions [like museums] are free and you can get a flight to/from almost anywhere for a reasonable fare.
