I will be traveling in Italy in a couple of weeks. What is the easiest/cheapest way to get to the Marriott Central Park in Rome from FCO? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
It is in an awkward location. Not conveniently located to anything. Two miles NW of the Vatican. Taxi maybe you only option at 40 to 50 Euro. Hope you are getting a good deal or using Marriott points. Without a good map cannot tell what public transit is available. If it was available it would be complicated with changes to get there. What does the hotel recommend?
You got it....points. Hotel doesn't recommend, just gives the different options of bus, taxi, train, etc. Thanks for the reply.
I think I would save my points and use them another time. I am sure there is a local bus somewhere near the hotel but it will be a chore getting in and out of the tourist, sightseeing areas. All of my maps are packed away so I cannot see what is available. Maybe RoninRome will have some suggestions.
Looking at google maps, you are only steps away from Gemelli train station.
There is a train every twenty minutes from Gemelli to Fiumicino Airport. Change at Roma Trastevere, trip time is 1 hour +/- a few minutes and the cost is 8 euro.
Trust Ron. He has lived there and worked the ground while I have only been there for three weeks over the past few years. Just being close to a train station only makes it convenient for that train station. While some like to stay out and commute in each day, I prefer staying closer. Part of the experience, especially for Rome, is strolling the streets in the evening, or finding little corner coffee shops in the morning. Just cannot do that catching a train.
Definitely save your points for some other time and place. Don't spoil your trip this wonderful city by staying in an extremely inconvenient hotel. You'll regret it forever...I know because I've done it, too.
Try posting this on flyertalk.com under the Marriott section - in fact, do a search there as it may already have been answered.
Actually, the hotel location looks very convenient. 100 yds from suburban train station with trains every 20 minutes, 3 stops from Valle Aurelia Metro station.
I'd have to agree with Frank. This is really not a convenient location - especially if this is your first trip to Rome as you'll want to see the sites. I have friends in the area and often cut through this section of town as I headed the back way up to the Via Cassia where my wife worked. I'd also recommend saving your Marriott points unless you can get into the Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora on Via Veneto. This hotel often has multiple blackout periods and it WILL take a lot of points. But having been to all the Marriott locations (a few times to meet folks), the Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora is by far the most convenient for a first-time traveler. There's probably something to be said about the first hotel NOT being specific on "how to get there."
