What is the best way to get to Florence from the airport?
Is is advisable to use the shuttle service or a taxi and if so should these arrangements be made ahead of time?

I've taken the bus. It takes off from right near where the taxis do and it is very convenient. Its about 20-30 minutes and I don't recall ever waiting more than 10-15 minutes for a bus. As of a couple years ago, you still need to validate your ticket.
