transportation from da Vinci airport to central Rome

We are arriving in Rome on Monday, August 24/09.
My husband and I want to decide whether we will get a taxi or train from da Vinci to hotel (located near Spanish Steps.
Can someone let me know the cost of a taxi ?
I would prefer a cab , but if the cost is outrageous, I am open to other suggestions.
Thank you

Mary Elena,

My preference would be to take the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini and then take either the Metro or a Taxi from there to the Spanish Steps. As I recall, the closest Metro Staion to the steps is "Spagna" on the "A" Metro line (it's only three stops from Termini so the ride is very short).

I believe the "flat rate" fee for a Taxi to Central Rome is €40, but someone else here will have to confirm that (I never use Taxi's for that trip).

Happy travels!

Leonardo Express is great way to get to the main RR station in Rome. Economical and leave every 1/2 hr. Cab may run 40-50 E. If you can others to split cost, then you have a good option.

The amount of luggage you have can also be a determining factor. When we stayed in that area 2 yrs. ago and used the Spagna metro stop, I remember walking a long way (a lot more than usual) underground. If you have wheeled luggage, no problem. We had backpacks--that was interesting. My son had wheeled luggage and I will also on our next trip! Have a great time making lifetime memories.

Thank you all!

I have wheeled luggage, so we will forget the taxi!

Thanks for the info!

Oops... I mean 'Grazie'.

As Ken stated, it is a flat rate from the airport to any place within the old city walls -- 40E including luggage as of last year and believe the same for this year. There is a higher fee after dark. Just confirmed it with the driver and the starter so that he doesn't suddenly decide that the fare was increased yesterday.

The confirmation of taxi rate is very helpful.

I think I will see how we feel when we arrive at the airport and we know our options and cost.

Hey Ken!!

How is the weather in Vernon?

We have had a sweltering week (38-40 with the humidex).

Mary Elena,

The daytime temperatures in the Okanagan are about 35°C this week, but I'm not sure about the humidity. This area tends to be very dry (it's at the northern end of a desert), so humidity is not usually a problem.

It's easy to tell that it's summer, as there have been a few reports of Rattlesnake bites!

Cheers!

Take the Leonardo express to Termini station then get a cab, make sure you get the fare for the cab, you will have to walk a bit to the Spanish step, or you can check in to your hotel then take the sightseeing bus, the Spanish steps it in the route. You might have to ask for help becaue it is difficult to find the street name, but people are very helpful. I went alone on a 10-day vacation.
