We will be traveling to Paris in March, arriving on a Monday morning, 10ish. What is the best way to get from the airport to our rental apartment in the 7th arr. near the Eiffel Tower?
How about an address? There's a slew of metro stations 'near' the ET.
74 rue Saint Dominique
Cheapest and easiest if you don't have a lot of stuff is to take the RER B from the airport to St Michel / Notre Dame, switch to RER C to Invalides, then swith to Metro 8 to Tour Maubourg, then walk two blocks. That'll cost about ten bucks per head. If that's too rough, take the RER B only as far as that first stop (St Michel) and hop a cab. That will add another fifteen bucks (total) or so.
You asked for "best" not cheapest. We took a cab for that route--cost was about $60.00, including tip. The driver even treated us to two circuits of the Arc.
Last May, we took a taxi from CDG to our hotel near the Sorbonne. The charge was 53 euros so we gave the driver 60 euros. Since we had luggage, taking a taxi was much easier, although not cheaper, than taking the RER and the metro.
Thank you all for the great tips!
A taxi ride all the way from CDG is too expensive IMHO. You can also catch the Roissy Bus from CDG to the last stop (Opera Garnier), about 8 Euros. Then a short taxi ride or hop the metro (Route 8) for a cheaper alternative. Another option by bus is the RATP No. 350 from CDG to Gare du Nord, than taxi.
I would definitely do as Mark suggested - RoissyBus to Opera, then metro line 8 Dir: Balard to "La Tour-Maubourg". The how-to's are in Rick's books, or easily findable online (or, PM me!). Oh, the VIEW from your street (gasp)...Lucky you!
The current fare for the RoissyBus is €9.40. The bus goes non-stop between CDG and Opera. A single metro ticket from Opera to La Tour-Maubourg costs €1.70. The fare for bus #350 from CDG to either Gare du Nord or Gare de l'Est is three metro/bus tickets (€5.10). The fare for the RER B from CDG to anywhere in central Paris is €8.70 and includes transfers to the metro and/or other RER lines.
