transportation from Boston to Pamplona, Spain

I'm looking for the best way to get form Boston to Pamplona while avoiding Iberia for the USA - Spain flight. (I've flown with Iberia multiples times and the website/app/customer service is difficult.)

I'm thinking:
Delta - Boston to Madrid
Iberia- Madrid to Pamplona (same day with 6 hour layover)
Return flights: Iberia - Santiago de Compostela to Madrid
Delta - Madrid to Boston (same day with a 4 hour layover)

The Delta and Iberia flights can not be booked on the same ticket (unless there is a way to do this that I have not found) which could be a problem if there is a delay with one of the flights on the same day.

Also I'm just realizing that if I fly Delta I'm going to have to transfer from Terminal 1 to terminal TS and I guess that can take about an hour , so maybe four hour layover is not even enough!

I've checked booking through American (Iberia flights), but you can not select seats when booking through American.

I could take trains for the Spain connections, but I suppose if flights are cancelled/delayed, there would be the same problems.

Is there something I'm missing? Any suggestions?
TIA

Not positive this helps because it's different airports, but I traveled with American (all one ticket) on my recent flight from Philadelphia to Athens, connecting in Madrid. My second flight was on Iberia and it was quite simple to select my seat for the Iberia leg on the Iberia site.
