What is the best way to get into the city from the airport in Amsterdam?

Train - ten minutes. The big TI (not called that in Amsterdam) is across the street from the station. Very handy. Small TI in the airport.

The TI is called the V V V in Holland - pronounced fay-fay-fay
At the airport follow the signs down stairs to the train station, buy a ticket and hop on the train. You' re in the heart of Amsterdam when you get off. From there you can take a tram to your hotel. It's not generally recommended to take a taxi at the station, they are more expensive there.

There is also a company that operates buses from the airport directly to your hotel. In many cases that is far faster than the train to Amsterdam and then a tram or taxi. May be a bit less expensive also. They have a booth in the arrivals hall after you pass through customs.
