Transportation for 5 from CDG to hotel & return

Arriving on a Sunday morning, leaving on a Wednesday late afternoon. Family of 5 (2 teens and a preschooler, DH & I) with 6-7 suitcases. Looking for best way to get from CDG to our hotel near Notre Dame. Are there taxis there for this large of a group? I hesitate to use a prepaid shuttle after reading the boards. Our hotel is very close to a RER station.

With a group your size, you will pay nearly as much for tickets on the RER as you will for a taxi. There are minivan taxis in the taxi ranks at CDG. Be sure to only take an official taxi. Do not agree to ride with someone who approaches you independently. Write down the name and address of your hotel, including the postal code, on a piece of paper and give it to the driver. Try to limit yourselves to one carry-on bag per person plus daypacks. See the articles under the "Packing Tips" heading on this page.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I know we will have a lot of luggage. We are doing Paris for 4 days, then Barcelona for about 2, then a 12 day cruise. This IS packing lightfor our first 7 day cruise we had 12 pieces of stuff like 7 suitcases and 5 carry-on/camera bagsand there were only 4 of us at the time! Is it easy to tell where an "official" taxi is? Is there a site to know how much a taxi sould cost? Thanks again!

Ask you hotel for shuttle suggestions. We had our hotel arrange a taxi for us to/from the train station or airport, both times we visited Paris. It was nice as the we had a set price. We were met at the luggage area and taken directly to our hotel (Le Littre, 6 arron.). If your hotel has a recommened and honest service they use, you will be more assured you will not be cheated.

Please see the Inter Shuttle web site. http://www.shuttle-inter.com/ We used them three times in Sept 2010. They are reliable and charge what they say. On Sat May 5 I e mailed them for a Paris to CDG ride for June 9. They e mailed me back on May 6. You can even call them the morning of your
ride to confirm. I highly recommend them Jim Foley

Hello Again You mentioned you are near a RER station. If you can get to Gar de Nord, at this train station you can get on the RER train to CDG. We always go from CDG to Paris when we arrive at 7:00 am so we can avoid the ruch hour traffic on the roads. The only problem is that there are stairs and climbing up the RER train steps with luggage can be difficult for some. This probably would cost you 7/8 euros per person. Have Fun. James Foley

Jen, I have almost always taken the RER/Metro system into the city. The hotel we use is near the Place de la Nation. I actually enjoy the system. If you can manage the luggage and the preschooler, it shouldn't be a problem on Sunday morning. Now on the Wednesday afternoon, that is a whole other issue; I might not try it with all the baggage, both human and otherwise - I would do it, we are usually 3 adults with just carry on luggage; if you do try it, be sure to leave early, the Metro/RER systems do have occasional problems. A taxi, if there were even room for all of you and your belongings, would cost you at least €75. Once, I did take the RoissyBus, which ends its run at the Paris Opera, and that did work, it's about €10/person. Would be easy to get a taxi (or 2) or Metro from there. You're in a bit of a pickle, I have to admit, but once you get to CDG find a traveler's info booth, I believe there's one near where you would board the RER/Metro and the TGV. They have always been very helpful and would probably have good advice for you, although it's a little scary waiting, in effect until the last minute, to have info in hand. Here's a link to a simplified map of the RER/Metro system, you can see there are good connections between the two places:

Thanks for the map! Looking at that, it looks easy-peasy! We are supposedly very close to the Saint-Michel blue line RER B stop. We are at the Citadines St. Germain yaddayadda yadda hotel. So the RER would be manageable with suitcases? My kids are pretty good with the travel routine...they each take their own (even the 5 year old, for the most part). How many stairs/escalators would we have to deal with, do you think?

Our hotel (Le Littre, 6 arron.) made arrangements for taxi's to pick us up both times we were in Paris in the past three years. We just paid the driver directly. The taxi drivers met us after we picked up our luggage at CDG or when we left the train. Then a driver met us at our hotel for the returns trips to CDG. It was very convenient. We liked the idea that it was a set price and our hotel just told us upfront. Maybe your hotel would make arrangements for you. Have a great trip.

Jen, Your hotel is within a few blocks of the Saint-Michel Notre-Dame RER station. You can take the RER B directly from CDG to that station. For detailed instructions, including photos, see the Paris by Train site. At CDG the train will be above ground. I think there are escalators at Saint-Michel Notre-Dame.
