We would like to travel from London to Paris in between Christmas and New Year's eve. We would appreciate any advice we can get about the best way to do this.
...by train or a cheap flight?
All options are open. How do you define "best" ? The word has no meaning by itself. For some best is cheapest. For others it is most convenient. Help us !!
The best and fastest is by train Eurostar.
We like the eurostar (train). city center to city center, no hassle with airports and transport to and from the airport. Buy your tickets well in advance on Eurostar.com for the best price. For example, the cheapest fare I could find for travel next wee, round trip for 2 in standard class, is 288 GBP. For the same type of seat, the fare for travel in early August is 138 GBP (for two). Two people would save 150 pounds by booking early for this travel.
Eurostar tickets go on sale circa 4 months in advance. I'd make sure you get in at that time: cheap fares around Christmas and New Year will go fast.
Thank you so much for the good advice. The Eurostar seems to be the best fit for us--affordable and less hassle than flying or driving.
