We want to go to Tuscany (Siena) from Houston, TX. We can fly to Paris nonstop & maybe take a train to Florence & then rent a car but the train takes 14 hours. We can fly to Rome with one stop & either take a bus/train to Siena or rent a car in Rome & drive. I really don't know the best way to Siena. Any help would certainly be appreciated.
Since you're flying from a big airline hub like Houston, it would probably be easier to fly into Rome and then take a train up to Siena. That way you're already in Italy- you don't have to worry about another border crossing if tou were to come frm France. I would say take publice transportation- let someone else drive while you sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery.
I agree with Kelly. Go through all the customs stuff etc in Rome and then hop on the train and relax. After your flight you probably won't really feel like driving anyway.
You might also consider the flights into Pisa, Milan or Florence depending on what time of year you are going. I like to consider how the difficult (how tiring after a long flight) the connections and the duration of transit time.
