How to I get from Southampton, England to the beaches in Normandy? Will be arriving in S.hampton around the 14th of October Thank you
Basicly, you need to get down to Portsmouth and catch what I think is a twice-a-day ferry to the Caen ferryport at Ouistreham, ride a bus to Caen itself, and rent a car or take a tour. It's going to be a pain in the neck -- the ferry is six or seven hours. I'm pretty sure Brittany Ferries is the one that runs the route. Rough guess on the price of the ferry is seventy-five bucks. You ought to be able to pull off all the transportation for about a bit more than a hundred (car not included).
Ed is right. You can take a ferry operated by Brittany Ferries. There is an overnight ferry as well as daytime ones. After you get to Caen you can take a train to Bayeux. If you take an organized D-Day tour that starts in Bayeux you won't need a car.
