We are traveling from Sorrento to Rome on June 16 (a Sunday). It has just occurred to me that this will be an issue - does anyone have recommendations on the best way to get from Sorrento to Rome on a Sunday using public transportation? If public transportation won't work, any other suggestions? Thank you.

You can always catch the train to Naples and then on to Rome. Sunday train schedule may be little more limited than week day but you should have many options. There is also a direct bus to Rome that runs a couple times a day but know the Sunday schedule.

Circumvesuviana commuter trains run at least two times/hour between Sorrento and Napoli Garibaldi (the lower level of Napoli Centrale). High-speed Trenitalia trains run at least two times/hour between Napoli Centrale and Roma Termini.
