Greetings, I am wanting to return a rented car "conveniently" in Venice as we will be getting on a cruise boat. I've been told "don't drive into Venice". The airport is quite outside the city. Any tips? Thanks.

Actually, the great thing about driving into Venice is that you can only go to a couple of parking garages. It's not like you're driving into Paris or Rome.
Your rental agency likely has an office in Piezzale Roma. Just drive across the causeway from Mestre and then follow the signs. It should be a breeze.
We dropped a rental car at the airport in Venice then took a water taxi to our hotel. You could make arrangements with your cruise company and see what they offer for transport to their ship.
