Marta,

As the previous post indicated, travel by rail on that route is 6-8 hours. Depending on which train you choose, you'll have 3 or 4 changes (some of them are quite easy).

You didn't indicate when you'd be taking the trip, so keep in mind that any suggestions provided today might be different at the time you travel.

The train I'd probably use departs Interlaken Ost at 08:01, arriving Firenze S.M.N. at 14:39 (time 6H:38M, 3 changes in Spiez, Brig & Milano Centrale, reservations compulsory as two legs of the trip use the Cisalpino and EuroStar Italia). That should get you to Firenze at just about the right time to check into your Hotel (arriving too early means the room might not be ready yet).

With the train I suggested, you'll have about a 55 minute "layover" at Milano Centrale. Watch your belongings and keep some small change handy for the WC's (down one level on the "moving sidewalk" as I recall).

Depending on where your Hotel is located in Firenze, you may be able to walk from the station? Have you booked a Hotel yet?

Happy travels!

There is also a night train route. Leave Interlaken Ost at 23:01 on an ICE train to Spiez. Take a EuroNight train from Spiez to Firenze, arriving at 06:41.
