Transportation between Rijeka, Croatia and Trieste, Italy

I'm stuck logistically! Can anyone help me? I'm returning a car in Rijeka on a Sunday morning this summer, then want to catch a 5 pm train from Trieste to Venice so that we can then catch an 8:45 pm flight from Venice to Paris (frequent flier miles tickets have dicatated our inconvenient but very lovely departure city!). I've found a bus schedule on-line but the only schedule I can find on-line doesn't show buses running at the right times on Sundays in August. Does anyone have better/more information/options for traveling between these two cities?

Be careful making assumptions. If it turns out that bus doesn't run on that day, what happens? FWIW, I recently did a trip in that area that required us getting from the coast of Slovenia (near Piran) to Rovinj, Croatia. There is a convenient bus that connects from Portoroz to Rovinj, but it only runs 2x per week (at least in May, when we were there). We were able to arrange our schedule around it so we made the connection, but we almost didn't make it: we were there, and it turned out there was no bus station, just a pull-out, so we couldn't buy tickets when we arrived a few hours before the bus came; the "bus" was much smaller than we expected - just an 18-passenger mini-bus, and almost all the seats were already full, we got the last 2 seats on it - if one more person had been on the bus or in line ahead of us, we would not have made it. I'd suggest you contact the bus company to confirm the schedule and if possible to get tickets in advance. If you don't get on that bus, and you miss your flight home (which you're using an award ticket for), you will be in a world of hurt. I had a "Plan B" in my back pocket (a taxi service) and suggest you look into a backup plan, too, since the consequences of not making that bus could be very dire (the cost of a one-way ticket home bought on the day you want to fly - not cheap). Hope that helps.

Thanks for your input. I've had so much trouble piecing this together and had the same thoughts as you about late buses, late trains, etc. I think we'll take the safe route . . . buy more expensive plane tix from venice to paris at a different time which would allow us to take the high speed ferry, a more reliable option, and leave us more leeway all around. I wouldn't mind being more spontaneous if I were traveling alone but with a family of four, I'd prefer to keep that type of adventure to a minimum :). Thanks for helping me sort this all out!
