Transportation between London/Spain/Liverpool!

Hello fellow travelers! My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Basque Country, but using London as our "gateway" as we will spend the end of our trip in England. Thanks to a previous topic on this forum, I got information on how to travel from Heathrow to Stansted (where I need to take an EasyJet flight to Bilbao, Spain).

We are planning on traveling to Liverpool after Spain. Bilbao only flies to London Stansted. Is there a train near Stansted that directly travels to Liverpool? (Lime Street Station) Or will I have to travel back to Heathrow, down to Paddington, make my way to Euston Station, and then take a train from there? If I can avoid going into Central London en route to Liverpool, that'll save me a lot of time and money. Especially since the flight from Bilbao to London Stansted occurs once a day, and it's in the evening. Help!

No, you will have to come back to London. Stansted is out in the boonies. For all practical purposes Stansted is on the opposite side of London from Heathrow so you would just take the train back to Liverpool station (I think) and the subway or taxi to Euston. You are discovering one of the "joys" of discount airline.

You can get from Stansted to London by train or bus. Fares and routes vary. See this page for all your choices. FYI, it's Liverpool Street station in London, not simply Liverpool.

You can use the national rail website to map out your trip. At least when I played around with it the advice is to go back to London and take a direct train up the west coast. It looks like any trip up the east coast and across would be longer.
