what is the best way to travel from Bayeux to Mont St Michel? I will be staying several days in Mont St Michel

You can take a regional train directly from Bayeux to Pontorson which is the closest train station to Mont-Saint-Michel. Trains depart at 07:30, 14:31, and 17:46. The ride take a little under two hours. You can take a short bus ride (9 km) from Pontorson to Mont-Saint-Michel. On weekdays the bus leaves at 07:40, 10:10, 11:40, 15:20, 16:35, and 18:00. On Saturdays it leaves at 10:10, 11:40, 15:20, 16:35, 17:15, and 18:00. On Sundays it leaves at 10:10, 11:40, 13:50, 16:35, 18:00, and 19:45. Or you can take a taxi.

Anda, If you just want a very short visit to Mont St. Michel, you could also use the Shuttle offered by the Hotel Churchill. It only provides a few hours, but for some that's adequate. Happy travels!
