These would be very long and tedious train connections. I'd look at airlines. skyscanner is a good start.

I would consider flying or train. Train would take much longer. Click on Favorite Links at the top of this page. Then go to Transportation and look under Air Travel and then Rail Travel. Deutsche Bahn is the best to figure out timetable in all Europe. To find prices you need to look for national rail lines.

I agree with the above replies. Here are the links to the sites mentioned. For trains, use the Bahn website to find schedules, following Rick's tutorial: http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/db_tips.htm. This will only have prices for trains that start or end in Germany. If you are interested in taking a train, here's where to find the tickets and best prices, from The Man In Seat 61: http://tinyurl.com/bo8x6o6 For flights, use Skyscanner: http://www.skyscanner.com/ Be sure to book your international flight as "open jaw" (multi city), into Istanbul and out of Milan. This will save time and money backtracking. To find these flights, don't look for two one-ways (very expensive). Instead, use the multi-city option on Kayak: http://www.kayak.com/.
