What would be the best way to get from Venice to Istria and then drive down to Dubrovnick, stopping in Zadar, Split, going to islands? We will be travelling on August 1 for about 2 weeks. Any ideas on itinerary and modes of transportation from Venice to southern Croatia? Thanks for your help.
I don't know the answer but we're doing the same thing in October and I'm researching now. We've rented a car in Venice so far. Please let me know when you get back how your trip went and any advice.
You can check ocean24.de for ferry boat connections from Rijeka to Dubrovnik or ferry boats from Italy to Croatia. Driving in the Northern part of Croatia is easy and works just like at home. Head- and tail lights have to be switched on at all times and they have a 0 alcohol tolerance for drivers. In order to get to Dubrovnik you have to cross thru Bosnia for a few miles. But they don't require any extra visa.
Mark, if you rented a car in Venice are you driving out of Italy into Croatia with a rental car? Don't they charge big fees to do that and from what I heard, it is a long drive, great if you have the time.
Andreas, thanks for all you information. Do you drive from Croatia into Athens Greece or what is the best mode of transportation to get from Croatia to Greece?
