1. after spending a few days in Bayeux visiting the beaches of Normandy - need info how to get to Frankfurt or Wuerzburg, Germany - maybe by train or cheap air. 2. any info or suggestions about hotels or b&b's in Caen or Bayeux? All this travel will take place Oct.30-Nov15/2011
tnx for your help
The Rick Steves guidebook for France has good suggestions for B&Bs in that area. I would take the train from Bayeux through Paris to Frankfurt.
I agree with the train option. The problem from Bayeux is that you would need to travel anyway to Paris or another larger city to catch a flight, and Paris is already connected via fast train to Frankfurt. You could be in the city center of Frankfurt or in Wuerzburg faster by train than plane, plus no baggage limit and security item (liquids, etc) worries.
In April 2008, we stayed at the Hotel Reine Mathilde in Bayeux. It was excellent. We had a newly remodeled room on the top floor. The hotel's restaurant was also very good. Go here: http://www.hotel-bayeux-reinemathilde.fr/ Bon Voyage!
:)
If you take the fast train from Paris to Frankfurt, it is less than 4 hours. It is a little late for the heavily discounted tickets, but I would still rather ride the train than mess around with flights, etc. For Bayeux, we really enjoyed staying at Hotel de Sainte Croix. Beautiful large rooms with large bed and huge bathroom, and just an excellent breakfast served by a charming hostess. Even though our French was at an absolute minimum, she was very welcoming. http://www.hotel-de-sainte-croix.com/index.php?page=single_article&name=accueil
