Hello guys,
I am a single woman backpacker starting from India this Sep. (read extremly exited) I have a few questions that I needed help with.
Firstly here's my itinerary: Fly from India to London, Stay in London with friends for 2 days. (All rail journeys from here on) London to Amsterdam - 1 night/2 days, Amsterdam to Bruges or Brussels - 1 night/2 days, Brussels to Paris - 2 nights/ 3 days, Paris to Venice - 1 night/2 days, Venice to Pisa - day trip, Pisa to Rome - 3 nights/4 days, Rome to London (via Paris).
My questions: 1) is it cheaper to buy a 15 consecutive days Global Pass ($728) or are P2P tickets cheaper. Are taxes inclueded in the eurorail ticket/pass fees metioned on their site? 2) Can I travel from London to Paris with this pass or is that extra. 3) What should I budget per day for only food, accmodations (hostels) and any trams/public transportation used in the cities. 4) And the big question is September a good month to travel to these places. I knw this may be a stupid question but just so I am prepared. Please feel free to comment/suggest on my itinerary (too packed, not practical, stupid schedules, any thing really. I want to ensure I have a great trip).
From your post: Venice to Pisa - day trip, then to Rome same day.
That's going to be a long day. I can't be sure, but it may be that you have not taken into account the travel time needed to reach some of your destinations? such as Venice to Pisa to Rome (in one day). This is an important thing to do, and this link will get you started on estimating realistic travel times http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/30357/bhelp-with-itinerary-planning--travel-timesb.html
Thanks for the reply Kent. Firstly I wasnt sure if my post even made it:-) so I posted again. Guess there are two topics on the same.
I want to leave Paris in the late evening train (12 hrs to Venice) so I sould be there next day morning. Stay over night in Venice.
Venice to Pisa: station to station time is a minimum of 4hr30mins; add for time to get to station, wait for train, etc, let's say total travel time of 5 and 1/2 hours to get to Pisa from Venice.
Then your time to sight-see in Pisa, then the time to get back to the Pisa station, wait for the train to Rome.
Then a minimum of 3 hrs to Rome, by the fastest trains.
I guess it's feasible, I just can't recall anyone here proposing going all the way to Pisa from Venice, then to Rome, in one day. And going all that way to Pisa, but not stopping in Florence? (perhaps you've been to Florence before?)
Just trying to make sure you know the travel times. Once you know the realistic travel times, then it becomes a matter of how you want to travel, your personal preferences.
Another of your questions from your original post: And the big question is September a good month to travel to these places.
Yes, September is a good month for these locations.
2) A Eurail pass is not valid for the EuroStar train from London to Paris (or VV) but you can get a discount with an activated Eurail pass.
