Asked about transportation to a hotel within the Rick Steves area for touring. Do not want to do stairs or at least very few. Are their carts? Is there a way that is not too stressfull. Just getting suggestions so know how to go about making a decision. Never been to London.
Will you be flying into Heathrow or Gatwick? What do you mean by "the Rick Steves area for touring"? That could be anywhere in central London. You could call the RS office and ask what hotels they use for their tours. What's your price range?
Stairs are very much a way of life in Europe., I have been in places that required stairs to get to the elevator. And carts are not prevalent either.
Bonnie I have given some answers in a PM. Perhaps others here will pitch in with additional help regarding transport from the airport to your hotel. There are so many areas where tourists stay in London that without a steer from you about which district and which airport it is impossible to give you the best answer. You said your airport is 80 miles from London. I can only assume you are speaking about a remote airport like Birmingham (around 110 miles) or Luton (about 40). Gatwick and Heathrow are much closer. Tourist hotel areas in London might be: Bloomsbury Victoria / Pimlico / Sloan Sq South Kensington Kensington The City Isle of Dogs Earls Court
Lancaster Gate Paddington etc. There are probably 30 more, and all (combined with which airport) will have a different answer. BTW - if you want NO stairs, taxi is probably the way to go, price be damned. Good luck.
