I'll be based in Paris for a week and then Amboise, France for 5 days. I also want to take a day trip to Laussane, Switzerland. Should I buy a Eurail Pass for 4 days or buy each ticket separately? Thanks~

Not sure I understand. You'll be in Paris for a week. You probably can't even use a rail pass there since Paris Metro isn't included, and it wouldn't be an economical use of a rail pass, anyway. Then you are going (1-day?) to Amboise, France, then a 1-day day trip to Laussane. That's 2 days of travel, right. By a 4-day Eurail pass I assume you mean a 4-day France-Swiss Pass (only available in 1st class) for $383. My "gut" feeling is that separate tickets would be more economical, but don't take my word for it. Look up the individual ticket prices on the French Rail and Swiss Rail websites.

You'll probably want a rental car in the Loire Valley, unless you planned to remain in Amboise for 5 days.
