transportation

we are a group of 4 active seniors travelling around Benelux this september/2013. we need to travel from Bruges to Luxenbourg, and again 5 days later from Luxenbourg to Amsterdam. ?? should we go by trains or car. considering the time, convenience, cost etc.
more specifically if we go by train, do we have to reserve a seat on each leg of the journey between Lux and Amsterdam. There are 4 train changes according to the DBbahn site.

Brugge-Luxembourg only requires one connection at Bruxelles-Midi/Zuid. Buy your tickets at Brugge. There is open seating and reservations are not possible. Luxembourg-Amsterdam only requires one connection at Bruxelles-Midi/Zuid if you take a Thalys train from Brussels to Amsterdam. Book ASAP (up to 90 days allowed) to get a discount fare on the Thalys train. All seats are reserved and the reservation comes with the ticket. Buy your tickets from Luxembourg to Brussels at Luxembourg. The timetables on the German Rail site show the routes I listed above. You will incur a stiff international drop-off fee if you pick up a car in one country and return it in another.
