I plan to get a Swiss Rail Pass and will be starting my journey into Switzerland from Lyon. Do I purchase a separate ticket from Lyon to Geneva? And departing from Lausanne back to Lyon do I buy a separate ticket for the French part of the travel, Geneva to Lyon?

Robert, how far do you wish to enter Switzerland on your initial entry? You could lose that opportunity from the Swiss border without an advance pass which you can get online. Or, you can buy a ticket from Lyon to Geneva and indeed by the pass in Geneva. On the reverse, it's easier. Your pass will cover you to the Swiss border. Just show the pass to the Swiss agent and they will make the appropriate fare adjustment.
