Transportation

I would like to go to Edinburgh, Scotland and the Normandy Coast to see the D-Day beaches. My question is what is the most economical way to do this.
Flying into multiple cities is expensive. I thought about flying in to Scotland and renting a car, then driving to Dover and taking the ferry to Calais. However, then I have to drive back to Scotland to fly home. Any suggestions on how to do this without spending allot of money.

Fly into Paris and get to Normandy by train or rental car. Back to Paris, Eurostar to London, train to Edinbuurgh and fly home from the UK. Eurostar tickets booked 120 days ahead are not expensive.

First, check fares for open-jaw (multi-city) tickets for home-Edinburgh and Paris-home. Then you won't need to backtrack to Edinburgh. Fly on a budget airline between Paris and Edinburgh. Both easyJet and Flybe fly CDG-EDI. Either take the train or rent a car to get to Normandy from Paris and back.
