Transportation

We are going to be in the Munich area we are only going to be there three days and then travel on to Italy. I would like to see the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. We will have a global railpass so I didn't want to rent a car. We could stay over night in either Fussen or Oberammergau both accessible by train but what alternate transportation could we use to get to the castles? I also was wondering about the overnight train from Munich to Venice if we reserve a first class room on the train are we able to lock the door so we could sleep without worring about our things being stolen?

You asked about the Munich-Venice night train. Yes, the doors on sleepers and couchettes lock from the inside.

Take the train from Munich to Füssen; a shuttle bus runs from there to N'stein.
