What's the best way to get from York to either Hadrian's Wall or the Lake District and then on to Oxford? We were planning on renting a car in York and dropping it off in Kendall or Liverpool (choices seem limited), then taking a train to Oxford. Don't want to drive from Lake District to Oxford, and would prefer not to have to return car to York, though that might be the simplest. Any ideas?
If you enter Hadrian's wall in the search box at the top of this page you will be taken to a list of posts about the Wall and the best parts of it, how to get there etc. You should be able to drop car off at Newcastle or Carlisle depending on what part of wall you visit and get trains south from both cities.
