Transportation

In Italy, when you buy a train ticket between cities but there is a stop(s) along the way where you have to change trains, do you have to validate the ticket before each boarding? Some of our connections have only 5 minutes but the tracks are next to each other. If we have to validate, we may not make the train.

No, if you are riding a regional train, the validation when you board the first train is good for the trip. That just says the ticket is now used, and you can't try to use it again on another trip on another day. It will have the date and time of use stamped on it. If you are on an intercity train with a ticket and seat reservation, its already on the ticket.

Sam, Are you saying that you do not need to validate the intercity tickets even on the first leg?

Hi Cathy. Your ticket will be either reserved or regional. 1) If reserved, it will have a specific train #, date, time, coach and seat listed. In that case, it is only good for that train and does NOT need to be validated. 2) If regional, it will NOT show a coach and seat number. That ticket does need to be validated. Each ticket needs to be validated only once, before you get on the first train.
Enjoy your trip!
