I leave for Barcelona on July 11, 2011 from Florence Italy, I have no rooms in Barcelona yet but was wondering if it would be smarter to take a overnight train to save a hotel cost? this would combine travel + hotel. or
should i take a plane and find a hotel in barcelona to stay at? which is cheaper? and what is the best way to book it?

You can look at overnight ferries to Barcelona. They get there from Livorno, Genova, and Civitavecchia - all departure points within a train ride of 1-3 hours from Florence. WWW.directferries.co.uk/spain.htm There is no convenient, or cheap, overnight train from Florence to Barcelona.

You can also fly on Ryan Air from Pisa very cheaply.

Oh - I almost forgot. You can get from Florence to Barcelona on Meridiana Airlines, but they only fly certain days of the week.
