transport - Segovia to Bayonne

Hello,

I have booked a train from Segovia to Irun, arriving at 12:43 PM.

I am trying to catch transport from Irun to Bayonne. It looks like there is an SNFC train that goes from Irun to Hendaye, where I would catch another train from Hendaye to Bayonne, or does the SNFC go from Irun to Bayonne, stopping in Hendaye? Everytime I think I know wht I am doing, I get turned around.

I would appreciate direction from anyone with familiarity! Thank you, Terry

From Irun to Hendaye you just take the local "Euskotren" train. That operates every half hour, only costs a couple of Euros, and only takes a few minutes. Its mass transit. Euskotren being a mass transit sytem you do need to change stations. In Irun the Euskotren station is a few blocks away from the RENFE station. In Hendaye the Euskotren station is next to the SNCF station.
These Euskotren trains are currently the only local cross border trains. You just buy tickets at the station.
Given the walk involved in Irun you might want to consider just taking a taxi. it is just a few km.

In Hendaye you can take the SNCF train to Bayonne.

bahn.com actually now has the schedules for that route.

It used to be that Irun/Hendaye was basically treated as a joint station. Spanish trains would terminate in Hendaye, and return empty to Irun. French trains would terminate in Irun, and return empty to Hendaye. That has ended quite a while ago though.

Most of the trains on Henday - Bayonne are TER trains. For TER trains you buy a ticket for a route, so you do not have to worry to much about timing. You can take any train except for TGV with your ticket.
So in Irun you walk to "Irun Colon" (look that up on a map), There you buy your ticket from a vending machine, and then in Hendaye you cross over to the SNCF station and take the next TER Trains.

You could have a look at https://www.openrailwaymap.org/ to see where the dfifferent railway lines and stations are in the area....

Besides trains, there are hourly buses (Txik-Txak line 3) from Hendaye to Bayonne. It is significantly slower than the train, but it could be helpful if you are staying in Biarritz or in the west side of Bayonne (the bus heads to Allées Paulmy).
