Transport in the UK to Airports Servicing Bergerac

I have booked a week's stay in the Cotswolds during the third week in May. Our travel plans will then take us to the Dordogne area of France. The only flights on flybe to Bergerac seem to be from London Gatwick or Southampton. I am very concerned about hitting bad traffic delays for a 10:30 AM flight. Any suggestions of other ways to make this travel? Is Southampton a better airport than the London options? Any better ways to travel from point A to point B than with a rental car? I welcome any input - thanks! Janet
