Transport from Milan (MLP) To Bellagio

Hello,

my hubby and I are going to Bellagio at the end of this month. Has anyone found a safe and reasonable way to get there? Cheapest I found was 50 Euros a person....on a shuttle. Trying to find something lower...

Milan has three airports. Milan-MLP is not one of them. There is Milan Malpensa-MXP, Milan Linate-LIN and the smaller Milan Orio al Serio-BGY. Please clarify. Also, you'll need to clarify your necessary level of safety. The Bus/train/ferry journey to Bellagio is quite safe.

If your plane is arriving at Malpensa, you'll need to take one of the frequent express buses to Milan Central. Cost is 5.50Euro. Then, you need to take a train from Milan Centrale to Varenna. Cost 4.95Euro. Then you need to take the ferry from Varenna to Bellagio. Cost is under 4Euro. Of course you can take a shared shuttle for 50Euros.

Hello!

Thanks to both of you so much for responding! :)

We fly in to Malpensa - I typed it wrong.

Is the train-bus-ferry option safe? I guess you never know. I've been reading so much about how there are pickpockets and so on in Milan and so I wish we could avoid Milan center, and/or somehow go without three changes without it costing so much...may not be possible. We will both have a 26 inch suitcase, and then I have two carryons because I have sleep apnea....so I'm thinking we could be prime targets, lol.

Thanks so much!

Ilona: You don't have to worry about pick-pockets if there is nothing in your pockets to pick. Keep vital stuff in a money belt worn under your pants and then you can stop worrying about it and enjoy Larry's bus-train-ferry route, that's the standard route. As always, packing light is more fun than not packing light.

Thanks, Kent! We never do....I was just concerned because I'm bringing my brandnew video camera and my film camera (hidden in cheap-looking bags of course). And I don't want to have that stolen....

Perhaps the worry wort in me got the best of me.

Really appreciate everyone's help on here - great site!

There is also a private train line (The Malpensa Express) from MXP to Como Lago with a change at Saronna. It comes into downtown Como, right near the waterfront. I don't know about boat connections from there.

ilona, like most valuables, you really don't have to worry about your camera if you keep it with you and don't place it out of your sight. Thieves will take most anything in any country (including the U.S.) that is left unprotected. My 16-year old nephew just returned from 3 weeks in Viet Nam (international high school trip). I was so worried about the $800 Nikon D60 I gave him for the trip. Boy could that dissappear. Outside of falling into a couple of rice paddies with the camera (it didn't get wet), he said that the camera was never in any danger and that he treated it like his personal purse. Just don't let your camera out of your sight.

We took the shuttle from Malpensa to Milan Centrale, then train to Varenna, and ferry to Bellagio. It's an easy trip and the scenery--especially the ferry ride from Varenna to Belligo--is spectacular. It feels safer than the subway in Philadelphia! Just be sure to pack light so you don't have a lot of luggage to transfer from bus to train to ferry.
