we are coming in to madrid airport..the atocha train station is 6/10 of mile from our hotel westin palace..what are best /inexpensive options to get to hotel from airport..thank you

It depends - are you traveling light? The metro will probably get you pretty close but will require you to switch trains twice. I too will probably stay at the Westin in December and that is what I am planning on. Last December we had an 8 hr layover in Madrid and took the metro but got off at a different station since we wanted to explore the area - hence, I'm not sure what the closest metro to the Westin is. However, if you can navigate the metro and feel the walk is too far, then get a cab for the last leg from the metro exit to the Westin - this should save you a lot of money v/s taking a cab from the airport.

The airport bus is easy ( no changes), comfortable, and inexpensive 2 euros). The stop at Cibeles looks quite close to the Westin Palace. Or you could ride to the last stop at Atocha and walk or take a cab from there.

Great suggestion Lola. I'll have to remember that for my stay in December. I'm assuming the bus leaves from the airport - any idea if it goes from Terminal 4?
