Does anyone know if the tube or any trains run from heathrow airport to London on Christmas Day? Or can anyone recommend an alternative mode of transport on that day? Thank You!
The underground is closed on xmas day. The Heathrow Express train runs 365 days a year. www.heathrowexpress.com
In past years, Heathrow Express has replaced its trains with chartered coaches instead, so check the Heathrow express website closer to your departure date to see exactly what they're planning to do. Remember, it'll only take you to Paddington station and, after that, it'll have to be a taxi (if any can be found). As Michael says, no tube....and indeed no buses, or any other type of public transit in London, on Christmas Day (it boggles the mind, doesn't it?)
Hey c'mon guys - even Ebeneezer Scrooge gave Bob Cratchit the day off on Christmas day.
Seriously - you can make it from Heathrow to Paddington and it will probably be a coach on that day. I would contact your accommodation and see if they can arrange a collection at either Paddington or Heathrow. Most good hotels and guest houses know a kind Jewish cabbie who will turn out for you but it's traditional to charge triple rate on 25/26 December.
It may be worthwhile talking to your fellow passengers and seing how they are going to be travelling from Heathrow. You may be able to split a lift, and Christmas can bring out the best in a lot of us.
Al...maybe Ebeneezer did give Bob the day off...but he wasn't working as a public transit worker ;) I end up working every second Christmas or so...it's tough, but that's what "public service" is all about. However, your ideas about splitting a ride is an excellent one...there'll be a whole planeload of people in the same "boat."
