Could anyone help me regarding travelling around the Loire Valley as I won't have a car. Is it best to just book a tour? And any suggestions for places to stay.
We stayed in Blois and Amboise for 5 days w/o a car several years ago. While it was easy getting from city to city by train, it's difficult to get to see what's in between (that is, chateaus) w/o an alternative means of transport. We needed to rent a taxi for the day because the tour we wanted was booked. I guess renting a bicycle is another possibility.
Cycling is a very good option for those up for the trip, weather permitting. The valley is pretty flat. Make the effort to rent a decent machine, though.
Thank you for your reply but I don't think I want to cycle around...maybe there will be a small tour for the day I could go on...I will need to do some research....thanks again.
Hedy, I've done Acco-Dispo tours a couple of times (with different travel partners) and we've all thoroughly enjoyed the tours. We weren't in a situation to rent a car so took the train to Amboise and stayed at Hotel Belle-Vue in 2006 and Hotel le Clos d'Amboise in May, 2013.
