how do you suggest we get from airport CDG to a paris
central hotel on rue st germain? Best timewise and $$.
Hi Shirley. The cheapest way to get from CDG to Paris is via the RER B. I forgot the ticket price but I think it's about 10 euros. You'll likely have to transfer from the RER to a Metro line. Do you know which Metro stop is closest to your hotel?
Shirly a little more information would garner better answers.. but here goes. If you can easily handle your own luggage ( one piece each ) and carry it up a flight of stairs if need be,, then the fastest and cheapest is to take the RER(suburban train system ) into Paris. It is well marked and easy to do, it will cost about 10 euros. Depending on where on Rue St Germain you may just walk to hotel from RER stops( have you looked on your hotel website I am fairly sure they will clearly tell you how best to get to hotel using various methods from various places,, look under "location or access". The easiest is to exit the airport , following the many clear signs to the Taxi Stand,, and take a taxi. This will run between 45-55 euros depending on time of day, traffic, and how many people are in cab( they can charge an extra 3 euros for 3rd and 4 th person) and luggage is extra 1 euro for suitcase . This can be a fair deal if there are more then 3 of you,, only 10-20 euros more for door to door service then RER. This is recommended method if you have small children , too much luggage or mobility issues( RER and metro stations being underground usually involve some stairs, some long passages, etc) If you choose to take a taxi only take the taxis from the taxi stand, not from a random taxi driver that approaches you in airport. The taxis at the stand are licenced and metered. Depending on where exactly hotel is( St Germain is not a short street!) you may have to transfer to metro( on same ticket so no extra $) or you could get off at a RER station like St Michels and find a taxi stand if you wish ( from there taxi will run between 10-15 euros aprox)
Shirley, As the others have mentioned, the quickest and easiest method is usually to travel via RER "B" from CDG to Gare du Nord or one of the other stations, and then take the Metro to the area of your Hotel. There's good information on This Website. This is the best "timewise" option (IMHO) as it's not affected by traffic. In order to buy RER tickets from the Kiosks, you'll need either Euro coins or a "Chip & PIN" credit card. To use the older magnetic stripe cards, you'll have to wait in the queue at the ticket office. The details are all explained on the above website. It's impossible to provide more specific information, without having some idea where your Hotel is located (ie: which is the closest Metro stop). Cheers!
