Transiting Through Dublin

Friends who are traveling with us in a few months just got their return flight home from London. They waited too long and now they will have to change planes twice. They are going London-Dublin-Chicago-Sacramento. Won’t they go through passport control in Dublin? If they do, will they be able to use global entry to speed things along? They only have 1h 20m to change planes. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Thanks for the link. It addresses people who are departing from Dublin, but doesn’t really talk about people transiting during a layover. It makes sense that they would go through passport control there, but their layover isn’t very long. I wonder if there’s an expedited line for them to go through in that situation?

I think I didn’t word my question very well. I guess I was asking about what seems to be referred to as pre clearance. If I’m understanding the diagram on Trotter’s link they would go through pre clearance in Dublin as opposed to passport control in Chicago. Is that correct? If so, is there an expedited line in Dublin for people who have global entry or are on a short layover after arriving on another flight?

All US bound passengers transiting through Dublin must go through US pre-clearance, which is TSA security, US passport control and customs. Eligible passengers can use Global Entry. When the flight arrives in the US it will use a domestic terminal. With the 1h 20m layover your friends might want to tell the TSA folks so they can get moved to the head of the line. I don’t remember seeing pre-check but if they have status or are flying business class there is expedited security.
