I'm ending a RS tour in Chamonix on Friday, September 19 and want to get to Chartres for another tour that begins on September 21. I've tried every route I can think of and I believe my best option would be to take a Chamexpress shuttle to the Geneva Airport and the train from there to Chartres (fewer total transfers). I'd prefer train over plane or car, but would consider anything that might make an easier day of travel. My preference would be to go to Chartres on the 19th, but I'd consider a stop-over on the way for two nights. If any of you can suggest a better option, I'd be most appreciative.
Nancy, it seems that you have done a bit of study on this journey already. No matter how you do it, it looks like 8.0hrs-9.0hrs to get to Chartres via Paris Montparnasse. The Chamexpress is a great idea but it still takes 1.5hrs to get to Geneva. But, the 2 train changes are superior to the train and/or bus changes if you depart Chamonix instead of Geneva. Some of the Chamonix/Chartres runs have you going to Paris-Gare de Lyon and transferring to Paris-Montparnasse on the RER A. What time are you loose from your RS tour in Chamonix? Do you intend to immediately jump on some kind of transportation?
Larry, I've exhausted myself trying to come up with a better option. I usually find train travel so easy, but this has been a challenge. The tour is over in the a.m., bit I'm not eager to start traveling at the crack of dawn.
I've never done this, but Easyjet flies to Orly from Geneva on weekdays.
You still have to get to Chartres from there, of course.
