Does anyone have any experience with transfers from the Port of Giurgiu to downtown Bucharest?
Are you on a day excursion to Bucharest or are you getting off there to stay in Bucharest? In other words, will you have luggage with you?
We are staying in Bucharest for a few days so we will have luggage. Thanks for the reply!
We did this in May 2023 coming off an AMA river cruise. Since we didn't book the AMA post cruise tour of Bucharest we didn't have transfers from Giurgiu Port. We tried to arrange a transfer with the cruise line, but it was expensive, and transfer times didn't fit
with our schedule. We did have the cruise line arrange a private taxi to take us to our hotel in Bucharest. It took approximately 1 1/2 hours and cost $100 USD (can't remember if this included a tip)
BTW there are several tour operators that can pick you up at the port and include a tour of Bucharest, especially if they are dropping off passengers taking the cruise back to Budapest. Since I procrastinated, I was too late to do this.
Before we began our Gate One tour of the Balkans, we took a couple local tours in Bucharest: A walking tour of Old Town and
Taste of Bucharest: A food lover's tour of Markets & Districts. We enjoyed both as they didn't overlap and got to see various neighborhoods.
Enjoy, if this is your first visit, you will be surprised by Bucharest!
PS I will try to remember the name of the bakery that had the best eclairs outside of Paris!
The bakery is called French Revolution, with more than 20 different types of eclairs!
Dona,
Many thanks for your information and suggestions. We are arriving at Giurgiu on an AMA river cruise at the end of June. I have arranged a city tour of Bucharest with a guide from "Tour with a Local". The food tour that you suggested sounds interesting so I plan to check that out.
Best regards,
Maureen
