Can anyone help us with transfer times between trains in Germany? We are taking the train from Oberammergau, Germany to Munich. There is a transfer in Murnau, Germany before going on to Munich and the bahn.com site allows 12 minutes for that tranfer. Is that enough time or should we book an earlier train out of Oberammergau giving us an hour+ for the transfer? We have to be in Munich at a certain time to catch other transportation so can't miss the train in Murnau.
12 minutes is as good as an hour. Here (http://www.stationsdatenbank.bayern-takt.de/StationsdatenbankBEG/Steckbrief.html?lang=de&efz=8004185) is the webpage with the track layout in Murnau. The train from Oberammergau comes in on a spur line to a dead end track (4) across a platform from track 1, from which your train to Munich leaves. You don't even have to change platforms, but you might want to walk along the platform toward the station building. The train to Munich won't even arrive in the station for 10 minutes.
Thanks for the info. I won't worry about the short time frame. However I did try to look at the site you mentioned and couldn't go to it directly. I finally got there and it gave me a map of "Schweinfurt Hbf". Is that Murnau? It doesn't seem to be the same station as shown on google earth.
Lee,
I'm apparently getting stupider but I now realize the map I got can't be Murnau. I am able to get to the station data bank site but can't access the correct station. It doesn't help that I don't read German but is there something I'm missing here.
Thanks, Mike. I was able to get a station map. I don't know why I couldn't access it with Lee's info. It looks the same. Thanks to both of you for the help.
Maybe you included one of the parentheses in your paste. I wrote out the URL for the Murnau station plan because it has a '?' in it and BB Code can't handle links with certain characters. If you can't do a copy&paste, go to www.bayern-takt.de (it will change automatically to Bahnland-Bayern.de. Go to the bottom of the page, next to the picture of the girl in the red top, and click on "mehr" (more) under Stationsdatenbank, then on "zur (to the) Stationsdatenbank", on the next page. Find "Murnau" on the pulldown list (it's before a whole lot of München stations - Mö.. and Mü.. come after Mu..), then click "anzeigen" (show). You can also enlarge the map and find Murnau (if your German geography is good). Now you know my secret. Anyone can find station plans for Bavaria. Unfortunately, other Länder don't also do this.
If it is imperative that you be in Munich to catch ongoing transportation, then if it was me, I would go on the earlier train. Though 12 min. is usually enough time, one never knows. I know I have been on quite a few delayed trains lately, due to them working on the tracks, other delayed trains blocking stations as well as the odd accident here and there. It is wise not to cut it so close.
