Transfer time at Salzburg hbf

I'm looking at a train route from Munich to Cesky Krumlov that has an 8 min. train change in Salzburg, going on to Linz, then to Cesky. We're in pretty good shape and will have only a carry-on & daybag. Can someone who knows Salzburg hbf venture an opinion as to whether this is enough time?

Generally that is enough time, but if you leave a bit earlier on the Railjet you will eliminate the connection in Salzburg and go direct to Linz. You'd have 1 hour or so there before your connection to CK.

Thanks Sam. I saw that but thought I might wait until I know how close to the station we'll be staying in Munich before I chose that earlier run. I just wondered how tough the 8 min change in Salzburg would be so I could make a more informed choice. I have lots of time before I have to make a decision.

Hopefully, some one who has done the change will chime in. Salzburg has at most 6 tracks, so an underpass transfer is likely. The Railjet is scheduled to spend 5 minutes at the station.

You can download a pdf file of the Salzburg Hbf from this webpage. Click on 4, then on the box "Übersichtsplan Salzburg Hbf" (second row).

According to the Bahn website, if you are taking the 8:18 EC from Munich, you will arrive on track 6 and the RJ will be waiting on track 3. That is a 2 platform change - doable in 8 minutes if you are ready to get off when the train stops. In the event that the EC is a few minutes late getting to Salzburg, they might hold the RJ.

Thanks a lot Lee, very helpful information. It will make our decision making much easier. You're the best.

Or just take the 9:34 RJ from Munich. There is no change at Salzburg and you have a one hour change in Linz. But you get into Cecky Krumlov two hours later at 16:56. If you take the earlier train and miss the connection in Salzburg, there is an IC leaving 2 min later from track 5, but that probably won't help. The next connection is a Westbahn leaving at 11:50. That connection would also get you to Cesky Krumlov 2 hours later.

The main reason I liked the earlier trains was to get into Cesky Krumlov as early as possible as we will just have one night there before going on to Prague. At least we can get the better part of the afternoon & evening and then the next morning and take the latest train possible to Prague. We aren't concerned so much about getting in early there as we'll be there 4 nights. The main reason we're taking this circuitous route from Munich to Prague is because daughter really really wants to see CK.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
