I will be traveling with my husband and teenaged daughter as well as my 74 yr old parents and would like to know if there is a reliable transfer service I can contact about getting from the cruise ship port in Southampton to our hotel in Victoria? Thank you.
I haven't used them myself, but many people on the Fodor's board recommend Ray Skinner's London Transfers.
Here's an alternative you might consider. You can take a National Express coach (highway bus) directly from Southampton to Victoria Coach Station. Luggage goes in the bay so you won't have to schlepp it yourselves. The standard fare is £15.20, but if you book well in advance at www.nationalexpress.com you can get a funfare of £5.
Thanks Tim. Another question I have is will there be banks or ATMs in the port/bus area to get some pounds to pay the bus drivers/cabs? We are trying to get some early before we leave, but finding that it's quite costly and time consuming. Thanks!
It's only a guess, but I assume that ATMs are readily available. This page doesn't mention ATMs, but it has other information you may find helpful.
Janine, I can vouch for London Transfers & Ray Skinner. You can check his service out at london-transfers.com. Since you will be a party of 5, he will supply a van and will be waiting for you at the dock.
You can pay by credit card, by the way. If you want just a small number of GBPs, you can get them on your ship, but the exchange rate will be VERY unfavourable.
