I'll be flying through Dublin in late July at the end of my trip to Europe and Scotland, and the flight I booked on Aer Lingus allows 1 hr 45 minutes for the transfer. I thought that sounded OK until I realized I will be pre-clearing US customs & immigration in Dublin; now I'm getting worried about the timing. For those who have flown through Dublin, do you think this is feasible? I'll start my journey in Aberdeen, so the first leg is fairly short, and I won't be changing terminals. Thanks for any advice - and any reassurance!
We just came from Dublin and the customs process involved lots of lines. It probably took us 30-45 minutes, but the crowd was fairly light. Heavier crowds or a delayed first flight could throw the whole thing off.
Enough time as long as the flight from Aberdeen departs as scheduled
Single or separate bookings?
Checked bags?
The transfer time is probably enough if you are flying mid-week. On our last trip (May 2018) the US preclearance process only took 15 minutes. To avoid worrying about this, we fly to Dublin on the day before our final leg home and stay in Dun Laoghaire, a village south of Dublin. Dun Laoghaire is connected by bus directly to the airport.
I’ll be flying on a Monday morning, July 23. Carryon only, no checked bag. It’s booked as a single ticket not separate flights. I do have Global Entry which might make the clearance process easier. I guess I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
You'll probably make it, but don't waste a moment once you get off your first plane - head immediately to the check-in area for US-bound flights (clearly labeled).
