Transavia airlines

Wanted to find out experiences any of you have had with flights on this airline that have been booked with Delta - finding limited options (i.e. can only get a seat on day of departure due to ticketed through Delta) and certainly limits on carry on sizes. Anticipating we'll have to check our bags. Going from Porto through AMS to get to Boston. Have any of you had experience with this specifically - will they check the bags through to Boston? Just under a 2 hour layover and concerned if we have to go through customs, get bags and re-check in. Got conflicting answers from Transavia (who said we have to re check in) and Delta (who said bags will be checked through to Boston). Thanks for any info on this.

Transavia is a subsidiary of Air France, which is the same company as Delta. I've flown with them locally between France and Italy and on direct flights. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

How was your experience with Transavia? Did flight leave on time? Were you able to take laptop on flight?

Transavia is a low-cost airline owned by KLM (so it's part of the KLM/Air France Group - Delta is closely allied with KLM/Air France, but not actually owned by them). Transavia is based in primarily in Amsterdam, with a French subsidiary based in Paris. I think they are well-known in Europe.

IME, they're perfectly OK, for a low-cost airline - but make no mistake, it's a low-cost, no-frills operation, definitely not a luxury brand. I flew Transavia from Amsterdam to Sardinia and it was fine. Expect no frills, tight seating, and restrictive policies on things like luggage, carry-ons, boarding passes, seat selection, check-in, etc. (and expect those restrictive policies to be strictly enforced, don't expect to slide by). Read carefully all the rules and follow them, lest you get a nasty/expensive surprise for something you might assume is included, easy and costs nothing. That's the low cost model. Plenty of people love it.

I've only flown them on a single, nonstop leg, so no familiarity with their policies on connections and checking bags "through" but I'd keep my expectations low. If Transavia told you would would need to claim bags and re-check them, I'd be inclined to believe them. Maybe ask them (and Delta) several times (reaching different individuals each time) and see how consistent their answers are.

Thank you for the information. We haven't left for our trip - will be taking the flight early October. We aren't carrying a laptop so not sure about that.
